Singapore is expecting about 39.2 mm of heavy rain, the most of any major city, while Karachi and Jeddah both reach 37°C (99°F). Meanwhile, Europe and parts of North America start the day cold, with lows of 2°C (36°F) in several cities.

Singapore leads the world for rain

Singapore’s heavy rain is the headline, and with winds of only about 10 km/h, the downpour has little to push it along, so it is likely to feel like a sustained soaking. Elsewhere across the tropics the pattern repeats: Colombo sees 18.3 mm, Bangkok 17.3 mm and Jakarta 13.8 mm, all in heavy rain. Kuala Lumpur has rain too, with 6.0 mm.

South Asia and the Middle East: heat and a split picture

Karachi stays mostly sunny and reaches 37°C (99°F). Further inland the air is more comfortable: Lahore reaches 29°C and Islamabad 26°C, both under mostly sunny skies. Mumbai is hot at 35°C (95°F) with mostly sunny weather, while Kolkata and Dhaka have rain. Delhi also sees rain, though only about 1.0 mm. Bengaluru starts with fog. Colombo is the wet spot of the region, with winds up to 31 km/h.

In the Middle East, Jeddah reaches 37°C (99°F), with light showers that add up to only 0.2 mm. Riyadh and Doha both reach 36°C (97°F), and Doha sees light showers. Dubai is a little cooler at 34°C. Istanbul is the contrast, with rain and a high of just 17°C (63°F).

Europe turns cold and damp

Much of Europe is under cloud or rain. Vienna, with a high of only 10°C (50°F), falls to 2°C (36°F) overnight, and Moscow does the same under mostly sunny skies, though its daytime high is 9°C. Berlin and Zurich see rain, and Athens gets 3.6 mm with winds up to 28 km/h. Reykjavík is the roughest, with rain and winds of 43 km/h on a high of 7°C (45°F). Helsinki also sees rain with winds up to 33 km/h. Further south and west it is gentler: Lisbon reaches 24°C and Madrid 22°C in mostly sunny weather.

North America: chilly east, wet northwest

Heavy rain falls on Vancouver, about 19.4 mm, on a high of just 8°C (46°F). Seattle is also wet, with winds up to 27 km/h. On the other side of the continent, Boston is mostly sunny but cold, falling to 2°C (36°F). Denver also drops to 2°C, but warms to 20°C (68°F) by day under cloud. The south is much milder, with Dallas and Miami at 28°C. Miami and Houston both have rain.

Southern Hemisphere and wind watch

Auckland has the strongest winds of the day at 46 km/h, along with rain. Hong Kong is cloudy and breezy, with winds up to 38 km/h. Sydney is mostly sunny but has winds up to 32 km/h. Perth is mostly sunny at 28°C. In South America, São Paulo and Bogotá have rain, and Lima and Santiago start with fog.

What it means for travellers and people outdoors

In Singapore, Bangkok, Colombo and Jakarta, expect heavy rain to slow roads and outdoor plans, so allow extra time.

In Karachi, Jeddah, Riyadh and Doha, drink plenty of water and keep strenuous activity for the cooler parts of the day.

In northern and central Europe, Boston and Denver, wrap up for cold mornings and evenings.

Around Reykjavík, Auckland and Hong Kong, strong winds can make coasts and exposed areas unpleasant.

In Vancouver, Seattle and Berlin, carry waterproofs.

The numbers

City

High

Low

Rain

Sky

Karachi, Pakistan

37°C

23°C

0.0 mm

mostly sunny

Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

37°C

28°C

0.2 mm

light showers

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

36°C

26°C

0.0 mm

mostly sunny

Doha, Qatar

36°C

26°C

0.7 mm

light showers

Vienna, Austria

10°C

2°C

0.2 mm

light showers

Reykjavík, Iceland

7°C

2°C

1.9 mm

rain

Moscow, Russia

9°C

2°C

0.0 mm

mostly sunny

Boston, United States

11°C

2°C

0.0 mm

mostly sunny

Singapore, Singapore

31°C

22°C

39.2 mm

heavy rain

Vancouver, Canada

8°C

6°C

19.4 mm

heavy rain

Colombo, Sri Lanka

30°C

25°C

18.3 mm

heavy rain

Bangkok, Thailand

32°C

24°C

17.3 mm

heavy rain

Forecast retrieved 28 October 2026, 05:31 UTC for 84 major cities.
