Rain also sits over Kansas City, Houston and Miami, while the Northeast is cloudy and cool, with Boston reaching only 52°F (11°C).

Today’s biggest weather: rain in the Upper Midwest

Minneapolis has the wettest day among the northern cities, with heavy rain and a high of 64°F (18°C). Showers are possible nearby too. Behind it, the air turns cooler, so Thursday 29 October is dry and sunnier but noticeably chillier, with a high of 55°F (13°C).

Northeast and Mid-Atlantic weather

Cloud covers the whole Northeast and Mid-Atlantic today and it stays dry. New York reaches 61°F (16°C), Boston is cooler at 52°F (11°C), and Washington is milder at 66°F (19°C). Winds are light, so it will feel mostly cool and grey rather than raw.

Southeast, South and Plains

Atlanta is cloudy but mild at 72°F (22°C) and stays dry. Miami has rain and a warm 84°F (29°C), with the heaviest falls of 0.04 inches being light. Kansas City also has rain with a high of 77°F (25°C). Houston has rain, with more showers possible nearby, while Dallas is mostly sunny and warm at 82°F (28°C). New Orleans is mostly sunny at 77°F (25°C).

Rockies, Southwest and West Coast

The West is mostly quiet today. Denver is cloudy with a high of 70°F (21°C) but a cold night near 37°F (3°C). Salt Lake City is mostly sunny and cooler at 59°F (15°C). Phoenix is mostly sunny and warm at 84°F (29°C), and Los Angeles reaches 75°F (24°C). San Francisco starts under fog with a high of 64°F (18°C).

Pacific Northwest: wetter weather arrives

Seattle has light showers today at 54°F (12°C), but heavier rain is coming. Showers are possible nearby.

The next few days across the US

Seattle gets the next big soaking on Thursday 29 October, with heavy rain of about 0.78 inches and a high of only 48°F (9°C). More rain follows on Friday 30 October.

The Southwest changes most. Phoenix is cloudy on Thursday at 86°F (30°C), then heavy rain arrives on Friday 30 October with about 1.25 inches. That is a lot of rain for a desert city, so expect slow travel. Los Angeles and Salt Lake City turn wet as well.

The Northeast warms up by Friday 30 October, with New York at 70°F (21°C) and Washington at 72°F (22°C). By Saturday 31 October it cools again, with Boston back to 52°F (11°C).

Chicago turns wetter on Saturday 31 October, with rain of about 0.37 inches. Dallas has rain on Friday and Saturday, and New Orleans is wet on Saturday. Miami stays showery throughout.

What it means for you

Carry an umbrella in Minneapolis today, and in Seattle and Phoenix later this week.

Allow extra time for driving in heavy rain, especially in Phoenix on Friday 30 October.

Dress in layers in the Northeast and Rockies, where mornings and nights are cold.

Trick-or-treaters on Saturday 31 October should plan for rain in Chicago, Dallas, New Orleans and Salt Lake City.

Today city by city

City

Region

High

Low

Rain

Wind

Sky

New York

Northeast

61°F

45°F

0.0 in

7 mph

cloudy

Boston

Northeast

52°F

36°F

0.0 in

9 mph

cloudy

Washington

Mid-Atlantic

66°F

50°F

0.0 in

5 mph

cloudy

Atlanta

Southeast

72°F

52°F

0.0 in

8 mph

cloudy

Miami

Southeast

84°F

75°F

0.04 in

14 mph

rain

Chicago

Midwest

72°F

55°F

0.0 in

14 mph

mostly sunny

Minneapolis

Midwest

64°F

52°F

0.39 in

12 mph

heavy rain

Kansas City

Plains

77°F

61°F

0.05 in

15 mph

rain

Dallas

South

82°F

64°F

0.0 in

9 mph

mostly sunny

Houston

South

82°F

70°F

0.06 in

8 mph

rain

New Orleans

South

77°F

66°F

0.0 in

11 mph

mostly sunny

Denver

Rockies

70°F

37°F

0.0 in

12 mph

cloudy

Salt Lake City

Rockies

59°F

43°F

0.0 in

6 mph

mostly sunny

Phoenix

Southwest

84°F

59°F

0.0 in

5 mph

mostly sunny

Los Angeles

West Coast

75°F

57°F

0.0 in

6 mph

mostly sunny

San Francisco

West Coast

64°F

52°F

0.0 in

11 mph

fog

Seattle

Pacific Northwest

54°F

46°F

0.02 in

14 mph

light showers

Forecast retrieved 28 October 2026, 10:31 UTC for 17 cities across United States, each checked with four points about 30 km around it.
