It is a mild day for the end of October, with highs mostly between 10°C and 15°C and very little rain elsewhere.

UK weather today: fog and a few showers

Light winds are allowing fog to settle across a large part of the country. Where it forms, the day starts grey and damp-feeling, though it stays dry. Southampton is the notable exception in the south, with mostly sunny skies. Glasgow and Edinburgh are cloudy but dry, and the only real rain is in the north of Scotland.

England: fog in most places, brighter on the south coast

London, Bristol, Plymouth, Birmingham, Norwich, Manchester, Leeds and Newcastle all have fog today. Temperatures are fairly even, with highs of 14°C in London and Norwich, 12°C in Bristol, Birmingham and Manchester, and 10°C in Leeds. Winds are light, around 6 mph in many places, which is why the fog may be slow to clear. Plymouth is a little breezier at 14 mph. Southampton has mostly sunny weather and a high of 14°C.

Wales and Northern Ireland

Cardiff and Aberystwyth are both foggy but dry. Aberystwyth reaches 14°C and Cardiff 12°C, with winds around 11 mph. Belfast is also foggy, but it is the mildest start to the day, with a low of 10°C and a high of 14°C.

Scotland: where the rain is

Aberdeen has light showers and the strongest wind of our main cities at 17 mph, with a high of 14°C. Inverness is the warmest place on our list at 15°C, with light showers and the chance of heavier rain nearby. Glasgow and Edinburgh stay cloudy and dry, with highs of 13°C and 14°C.

The next few days

Sunday 1 November brings a change. Fog lingers in much of England, Wales and Yorkshire, while Scotland and Belfast turn mostly sunny. London, Norwich and Newcastle see light showers, though amounts are small. Glasgow gets colder, with a low of 3°C.

Monday 2 November is largely dry. Southern England, the Midlands and Wales are mostly sunny, while cloud is more common in London, Manchester, Leeds and Norwich. Cardiff is the breeziest at 20 mph. Newcastle has light showers, and Glasgow has fog with a low of 2°C.

By Tuesday 3 November, rain returns to the east and north. Norwich can expect 2.7 mm and Newcastle 2.3 mm, with heavier rain possible nearby in the east. Aberdeen sees rain, and Edinburgh and Inverness have light showers. Glasgow turns cooler, with a high of just 6°C. The south and west stay mostly sunny.

What it means for you

If you are driving in fog, slow down, use dipped headlights and leave extra distance.

Allow extra time for journeys this morning, especially across England and Wales.

Take a light waterproof if you are heading out in northern Scotland.

Dress in layers: it is mild now, but Glasgow nights fall to 2°C early next week.

Check the forecast again before travelling on Tuesday if you are in the east or north east.

Today city by city

City

Region

High

Low

Rain

Wind

Sky

London

South East England

14°C

7°C

0.0 mm

6 mph

fog

Southampton

South England

14°C

7°C

0.0 mm

9 mph

mostly sunny

Bristol

South West England

12°C

6°C

0.0 mm

6 mph

fog

Plymouth

South West England

14°C

8°C

0.0 mm

14 mph

fog

Birmingham

Midlands

12°C

6°C

0.0 mm

6 mph

fog

Norwich

East of England

14°C

7°C

0.0 mm

7 mph

fog

Manchester

North West England

12°C

5°C

0.0 mm

6 mph

fog

Leeds

Yorkshire

10°C

5°C

0.0 mm

6 mph

fog

Newcastle

North East England

12°C

5°C

0.0 mm

9 mph

fog

Cardiff

Wales

12°C

6°C

0.0 mm

11 mph

fog

Aberystwyth

Wales

14°C

7°C

0.0 mm

11 mph

fog

Glasgow

Scotland

13°C

8°C

0.0 mm

9 mph

cloudy

Edinburgh

Scotland

14°C

8°C

0.0 mm

10 mph

cloudy

Aberdeen

Scotland

14°C

10°C

0.6 mm

17 mph

light showers

Inverness

Scotland

15°C

8°C

0.4 mm

9 mph

light showers

Belfast

Northern Ireland

14°C

10°C

0.0 mm

10 mph

fog

Forecast retrieved 31 October 2026, 06:31 UTC for 16 cities across United Kingdom, each checked with four points about 30 km around it.
