Norwich has the steadiest rain, Edinburgh and London see light showers, and Glasgow, Belfast, Aberdeen and Inverness are mostly sunny. Temperatures are mild for the time of year, with highs between 10°C and 14°C.

Today’s UK weather: fog and a band of rain

The fog is the thing to plan around. It sits over the south, the Midlands, the north of England and Wales, while the sunniest weather is in the far north and west. Winds are light almost everywhere, which is why the fog can hang around rather than being stirred away.

South and South East England

London has light showers with a high of 11°C, though very little rain falls. Southampton is foggy with a high of 10°C and no rain. Further west, Bristol is also foggy but cool at first, with a low of 4°C overnight.

South West England and Wales

Plymouth is the bright spot, mostly sunny and the warmest place in our forecast at 14°C. Bristol is foggy. In Wales, Cardiff and Aberystwyth both start foggy, with highs of 12°C and 13°C, and winds of 15 mph.

Midlands, East and the North of England

Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds are all foggy and dry, with highs of 11°C to 12°C. Newcastle is cloudy with only a trace of rain. The wettest weather is in East of England, where Norwich has rain, about 1.3 mm, with showers possible nearby.

Scotland and Northern Ireland

Scotland is mostly bright. Glasgow, Aberdeen and Inverness are mostly sunny, with highs of 11°C. Edinburgh is the exception, with light showers and a few heavier ones possible nearby. Belfast is mostly sunny with a high of 11°C and winds of 13 mph.

The next few days

Monday 2 November brings sunshine to Southampton, Birmingham, Manchester, Aberystwyth and Edinburgh. Glasgow and Belfast turn foggy, with Glasgow dropping to 1°C. Newcastle and London have light showers.

On Tuesday 3 November, rain moves into Edinburgh, and light showers reach Aberdeen, Inverness, Newcastle, Bristol and London’s neighbours in the south west. Southampton, Plymouth and Cardiff stay mostly sunny, though Cardiff is breezy at 21 mph.

By Wednesday 4 November, cloud builds across the south and Wales, with showers possible near Southampton and Plymouth. Leeds gets rain, about 1.5 mm. Scotland turns cooler, with highs of 8°C in Glasgow and Inverness, but Glasgow and Edinburgh are mostly sunny.

What it means for you

If you are driving this morning in England or Wales, allow extra time and use dipped headlights in fog. Visibility should improve as the day goes on in places, but check before long journeys. For walks and outdoor plans, Scotland and Northern Ireland are the best bets today, while Norwich needs a waterproof. Evenings are cool, so a warm layer is sensible.

Today city by city

City

Region

High

Low

Rain

Wind

Sky

London

South East England

11°C

6°C

0.3 mm

7 mph

light showers

Southampton

South England

10°C

6°C

0.0 mm

9 mph

fog

Bristol

South West England

11°C

4°C

0.0 mm

11 mph

fog

Plymouth

South West England

14°C

6°C

0.0 mm

14 mph

mostly sunny

Birmingham

Midlands

12°C

6°C

0.0 mm

11 mph

fog

Norwich

East of England

11°C

6°C

1.3 mm

14 mph

rain

Manchester

North West England

12°C

6°C

0.0 mm

9 mph

fog

Leeds

Yorkshire

11°C

5°C

0.0 mm

11 mph

fog

Newcastle

North East England

12°C

6°C

0.1 mm

15 mph

cloudy

Cardiff

Wales

12°C

4°C

0.0 mm

15 mph

fog

Aberystwyth

Wales

13°C

7°C

0.0 mm

15 mph

fog

Glasgow

Scotland

11°C

4°C

0.0 mm

7 mph

mostly sunny

Edinburgh

Scotland

10°C

5°C

0.3 mm

9 mph

light showers

Aberdeen

Scotland

11°C

7°C

0.0 mm

17 mph

mostly sunny

Inverness

Scotland

11°C

5°C

0.0 mm

9 mph

mostly sunny

Belfast

Northern Ireland

11°C

6°C

0.0 mm

13 mph

mostly sunny

Forecast retrieved 1 November 2026, 06:31 UTC for 16 cities across United Kingdom, each checked with four points about 30 km around it.
