Temperatures are mild for the time of year at 9°C to 12°C almost everywhere.

Today’s main weather: fog in the west of Scotland, showers in the east

The standout is Glasgow, where fog is in place and winds are only 2 mph. Light wind means the fog has little to blow it away, and the night is cold, with a low of 1°C. Elsewhere in Scotland it is brighter: Edinburgh is mostly sunny, while Aberdeen and Inverness stay cloudy but dry.

On the other side of the country, light showers affect London, Norwich and Newcastle. Amounts are small, no more than 0.7 mm, so think passing damp spells rather than a washout.

Weather by region

Scotland and Northern Ireland

Scotland ranges from foggy Glasgow to sunny Edinburgh, with highs of 9°C to 12°C. Aberdeen is the mildest at 12°C and also the breeziest in Scotland, with winds of 15 mph. Belfast has a mostly sunny, calm day with a high of 11°C.

North West England, Yorkshire and North East England

Manchester and Leeds are cloudy but dry, with highs of 11°C. Newcastle is the exception, with light showers and 0.7 mm of rain.

Wales, the Midlands and the south-west

This is the brightest part of the country. Cardiff and Aberystwyth are mostly sunny, Plymouth is mostly sunny, and Birmingham is mostly sunny but cooler, with a high of 10°C. Bristol is cloudy. Cardiff has the strongest winds at 19 mph, a noticeable breeze but nothing severe.

South and East England

Southampton is mostly sunny with a high of 12°C. London has light showers and a high of 12°C. Norwich is also showery, with a high of 12°C and a mild low of 10°C.

The next few days

On Tuesday 3 November, Edinburgh turns wet with 1.8 mm of rain and Newcastle also sees rain. Glasgow and Inverness stay foggy. London has more light showers, and showers may be possible nearby. Much of Wales, the Midlands and the south-west stays mostly sunny.

By Wednesday 4 November, the rain moves to Yorkshire, where Leeds gets 2.4 mm. Plymouth turns showery with winds of 22 mph, and showers are possible nearby. Fog lingers in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Inverness. Cardiff stays mostly sunny but windy at 23 mph.

Thursday 5 November is the wettest day for the south-west. Plymouth has rain, with 3.2 mm in the city and heavier falls possible nearby. Belfast also turns rainy, and showers are possible nearby. Much of the rest of the country is cloudy and a little cooler, with highs of 9°C to 11°C, and Inverness is the coldest at 6°C.

What it means for you

In and around Glasgow, allow extra time for travel in fog and use lights when driving.

Carry a small umbrella in London, Norwich and Newcastle, where showers are light but possible.

Cold nights, such as 1°C in Glasgow, mean wrapping up warmly for early starts.

If you are heading to Plymouth later in the week, plan for a wetter Thursday.

Today city by city

City

Region

High

Low

Rain

Wind

Sky

London

South East England

12°C

8°C

0.2 mm

13 mph

light showers

Southampton

South England

12°C

8°C

0.0 mm

17 mph

mostly sunny

Bristol

South West England

11°C

6°C

0.0 mm

15 mph

cloudy

Plymouth

South West England

11°C

8°C

0.0 mm

16 mph

mostly sunny

Birmingham

Midlands

10°C

5°C

0.0 mm

13 mph

mostly sunny

Norwich

East of England

12°C

10°C

0.4 mm

15 mph

light showers

Manchester

North West England

11°C

5°C

0.0 mm

13 mph

cloudy

Leeds

Yorkshire

11°C

6°C

0.0 mm

12 mph

cloudy

Newcastle

North East England

11°C

6°C

0.7 mm

14 mph

light showers

Cardiff

Wales

11°C

6°C

0.0 mm

19 mph

mostly sunny

Aberystwyth

Wales

12°C

7°C

0.0 mm

14 mph

mostly sunny

Glasgow

Scotland

9°C

1°C

0.0 mm

2 mph

fog

Edinburgh

Scotland

10°C

4°C

0.0 mm

7 mph

mostly sunny

Aberdeen

Scotland

12°C

6°C

0.0 mm

15 mph

cloudy

Inverness

Scotland

11°C

6°C

0.0 mm

7 mph

cloudy

Belfast

Northern Ireland

11°C

6°C

0.0 mm

6 mph

mostly sunny

Forecast retrieved 2 November 2026, 06:31 UTC for 16 cities across United Kingdom, each checked with four points about 30 km around it.
