Heat builds across the north and Centre while rain hits Adelaide and Brisbane today. The south-east turns wetter from Monday, with Tuesday the wettest day for Canberra and Brisbane.

AT A GLANCE
- Broome and Darwin reach 34°C today, Alice Springs 35°C
- Adelaide has the heaviest rain today, about 9.5 mm
- Rain spreads across the south-east from Monday 2 November
- Brisbane and the Gold Coast turn heavy-rain wet on Tuesday 3 November
Australia today, Sunday 1 November, is split in two: hot and mostly dry across the north and the Centre, with rain across much of the south and east. Adelaide has the heaviest rain at about 9.5 mm, while Broome and Darwin both reach 34°C and Alice Springs hits 35°C.
Today’s weather across Australia
The standout is the contrast between the hot interior and the damp coasts. Adelaide is the wettest of the main cities today, and nearby areas could see more, with up to about 19.7 mm possible close by. Brisbane also has rain, around 4.3 mm, under a warm 28°C afternoon.
New South Wales, ACT and Victoria
Sydney and Newcastle are both in showery weather today, with highs of 22°C and 24°C. Rain amounts are small, but winds of 31 km/h in Sydney and 36 km/h in Newcastle will make it feel unsettled along the coast. Canberra is the exception, mostly sunny with a high of 22°C and a cool low of 10°C.
Melbourne is cloudy and dry today at 19°C, but that changes quickly, as the rain arrives on Monday.
Queensland weather
Brisbane has rain today, while the Gold Coast has light showers and a breezy 30 km/h wind. Further north, Townsville has light showers with a warm 28°C and a mild night of 24°C. Cairns has rain, though only about 2.4 mm, with a high of 30°C.
Western Australia, Northern Territory and South Australia
Broome is mostly sunny and hot at 34°C with a brisk 31 km/h wind. Perth is far cooler, at 20°C with light showers, and only a little rain is expected.
Darwin sees light showers and a humid 34°C, with heavier rain possible nearby. Alice Springs stays mostly sunny and dry, with a 35°C high. Adelaide has a wet day at 21°C, though it turns mostly sunny on Monday.
Australia weather in the next few days
Monday 2 November brings rain to Melbourne, about 8.7 mm in the city and more possible nearby, plus rain for Sydney, Newcastle and Canberra. Alice Springs reaches 37°C.
Tuesday 3 November looks like the wettest day for the east. Brisbane and the Gold Coast both get heavy rain, about 14.8 mm and 12.9 mm. Canberra sees about 9.4 mm, and Sydney has rain and winds of 43 km/h. Adelaide is foggy and Perth turns showery.
On Wednesday 4 November, Melbourne has heavy rain, around 10.9 mm, and Hobart turns wetter with about 7.2 mm. Brisbane clears to mostly sunny at 31°C, Perth warms to 27°C, and Broome reaches 37°C.
