AT A GLANCE
- Dry, mostly sunny skies in every province today
- Karachi and Hyderabad hottest at 37°C
- Quetta coolest of the big cities, high 22°C
- Rain in Gilgit-Baltistan on Friday 30 October
Pakistan is dry and mostly sunny today, Wednesday 28 October, with no rain in any of the cities we track. The heat is concentrated in the south, where Karachi and Hyderabad reach about 37°C, while the north and the Balochistan highlands are far milder. The first real change comes later in the week, when rain moves into Gilgit-Baltistan.
Pakistan weather today: sunshine and a hot south
High pressure is keeping skies clear, so the story today is temperature rather than weather. Southern Sindh is the warmest part of the country, and the contrast with the northern valleys and Quetta is large. Winds are light almost everywhere, though Karachi and Gwadar feel a steadier breeze of around 19 to 20 km/h.
Punjab and Islamabad
Punjab is sunny and comfortable. Lahore reaches 29°C with a low of 18°C, and Faisalabad is a degree cooler. Further south, Multan and Bahawalpur reach 31°C, so afternoons feel warmer there. Rawalpindi and Islamabad are the mildest in this group, at 27°C and 26°C, though winds of 16 to 17 km/h make them a little breezier than Lahore. Nights are cool enough that mornings will feel fresh.
Sindh: Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur
Sindh is the hottest province. Karachi and Hyderabad both reach 37°C today, with nights staying warm at 23 to 24°C. Sukkur is a little cooler at 34°C. Sea breezes in Karachi bring some relief, but the sun is strong and there is no rain to cool things down.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan
Peshawar reaches 28°C with a cool low of 14°C, and Mingora is milder still at 26°C, dropping to 12°C overnight. Dera Ismail Khan is warmer at 30°C. In Balochistan, Quetta stays at 22°C with a low of 12°C and a breeze of 17 km/h, while Zhob reaches 24°C. Gwadar on the coast is warm at 31°C and windy. On Thursday 29 October Gwadar is expected to see fog, with winds near 24 km/h.
Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir
Today is sunny in Gilgit, at 22°C, and in Skardu, where it is much colder at 14°C. Muzaffarabad reaches 27°C. The weather turns on Thursday 29 October, with light showers in Gilgit and Muzaffarabad. On Friday 30 October Gilgit sees rain of about 5.9 mm, and Skardu about 5.0 mm, with showers possible nearby. Skardu’s high falls to 12°C, and its low drops to 3°C, then 1°C on Saturday 31 October under cloud.
The next few days
Most of the country stays dry through Saturday 31 October. Lahore holds close to 28°C, and Karachi eases from 37°C to 34°C by Saturday as winds fall to about 10 km/h. Peshawar cools to 24°C on Saturday. The north is where changes happen, with Gilgit’s highs falling to 20°C on Friday and Saturday.
What it means for you
- In Sindh, drink plenty of water and avoid the strongest sun in the early afternoon.
- In the north, take a warm layer and waterproofs for Friday if you are travelling around Gilgit or Skardu.
- Mountain mornings and nights are cold, so plan outdoor activities for daytime.
- Along the Balochistan coast, expect strong breezes, and check conditions before any fog-affected journey on Thursday.
